The LATIUM Olive Producers Organization was established on October 14th, 2011 by a small group of members and cooperatives in the Sabina region. Only a few months after it was formed, the increasing interest on the part of growers and the organisation’s positive results caught the attention of UNAPROL – the Italian Olive Consortium. It joined the Consortium in December 2012, as executor of a community project in the provinces of Rome, Rieti and Viterbo, operating under the terms of EC Regulation 1220/2012. With about 9000 members spread across all five provinces of Lazio, OPLATIUM is currently the largest olive oil producers’ association in the region. Operating on behalf of UNAPROL, and in line with EU Regulation No. 1308/2013, it is organising work programmes (for the period 2015/2018) for olive-growers’ organisations based in the provinces of Rome, Frosinone, Viterbo, Latina and Rieti. Its deep roots in the local territory and a great determination to promote the area’s production of oil and olives are basic to the work the Organisation carries out, working in synergy with the supply chains, cooperatives and companies of Lazio to promote the product and accrue benefits for local farmers.
